Ann Siang Hill, originally known as Scott’s Hill, was owned by Charles Scott who cultivated a nutmeg and clove estate on it. Chia Ann Siang acquired the nutmeg plantations in 1894. From then on, the face of Ann Siang Hill changed permanently. Shophouses sprang up in the area; Chinese and Straits Chinese residents and businesses moved in and the area was transformed into an urban district.
