Property Overview
A pair of adjoining 3-storey shophouses located on the bustling Pagoda Street. Restored in the Early Shophouse style, the shophouses and the businesses here enjoy high visibility and excellent foot traffic from locals and tourists alike. This striking pair of shophouses was once occupied by Seng Cheong Tailor Shop, the first “洋服店” Western tailor shop along the street, and Wing Hing Tailor. Pagoda Street, one of the earliest streets of Singapore, is the “main and main” of Chinatown and encompasses the rich Chinese heritage of Singapore. In 1997, the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) converted Pagoda Street into a pedestrian only street, where shopkeepers are able to display their wares.
At the end of Pagoda Street lie two national monuments, the Jamae Mosque and Sri Mariamman Temple, Singapore’s oldest Hindu Temple. The temple’s pyramidal tower is referred to as “Pagoda”, hence the street name.
