Property Overview
This elegant 3-storey Art Deco shophouse is located just opposite Jalan Besar Plaza and is within minutes of City Square Mall, Mustafa Centre, and the Lavender, Jalan Besar, and Farrer Park MRT Stations. Its strategic location offers great convenience and accessibility, making it a perfect blend of historical charm and modern living.
75 Maude Road holds a significant place in Singapore’s history. Once a residence of a Hock Chia immigrant, this notable unit played a crucial role during World War II. It was here that our late forefather, Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, narrowly escaped death. During the Japanese occupation, Mr. Lee evaded a screening process by hiding at 75 Maude Road, spending the night in this very shophouse. This dramatic episode is vividly recounted in his memoir, The Singapore Story. Had he not escaped, he would almost certainly have been taken to a beach near Changi Prison and executed, a turn of events that could have altered the course of Singapore’s history.
